How did all start?

2008 food started coming back up. Thought it was GERD. Got worst after each pregnancy. I had 3 children after last child 1-2017 symptoms escaladed. I sought help at the end of 2017. Was diagnosed 1-2018. Went through many test and doctors. Had POEM 8-2018. Food life is better but still am struggling controlling heartburn.

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

Yes. Once I went for help I was diagnosed in 2 weeks. But it took 8 months of testing and advancing to the doctors who could treat Achalasia.

For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?

POEM

What has been the most useful thing for you so far?

Eat slower.

What have been your biggest difficulties?

Post surgery: heartburn. Pre surgery: regurgitating, breathing, weakness, fatigue, fluids coming out my noise, coughing. Worse at night. Lack of sleep.

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

Family has been very supportive.

What things have you stopped doing?

I haven't stopped but I get scared to eat out.

What do you think about the future?

Looks good. Hoping for long term success with the POEM procedure.

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

Hang in there. Post treatment things get better.
