A Polycystic Ovary Syndrome interview .

Liz's interview

How did all start?

I was 17 and started noticing my periods were irregular. At 19 I noticed I packed on 45lbs in a year and two years later still no period! I told my then boyfriend about it and he was concerned so I made an appointment with a gyno and I was diagnosed with PCOS. She noticed I had some hair growth on my face and skin tags around my neck and darkening of the neck and groin areas, she gave me a pelvic and abdominal ultrasound confirming I had pcos.

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

Took me two years to be diagnosed.

For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?

Honestly I have yet to find anything that actually works! I just wax often and tweeze I eat organic and exercise for 30 minutes a day.

What has been the most useful thing for you so far?

Drinking pcos tea has been great, I don’t get mood swings and I’m less stressed and I don’t have bad acne or oily scalp.

What have been your biggest difficulties?

Losing weight and getting pregnant.

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

My family just looks at it as I can’t have kids. They really don’t take much interest and just ask why I’ve gained so much weight.

What things have you stopped doing?

I’ve stopped socializing completely with others. I’m embarrassed about my weight mostly.
