1. Bronchiectasis is not a death sentence. I've been a member of an international bronchiectasis web site for 12 years and that site has yet to see one member pass away exclusively from bronchiectasis. We've had member pass away but from a combination of conditions or from an unrelated reason.
2. This is easy for me to say but hard for newly diagnosed patients to do... don't panic.
Freshly diagnosed (newbies) have to go thru a transition period. They were able to breath normally all their life. And now that breathing is laborious, it takes time to adjust. And that can be scary. I've had bronchiectasis all my life and never had to make the adjustment.
3. Newbies need to educate themselves on not only the condition but anatomy and how the body works. I did that at age 45 after having the condition all that time and it is the best thing I've ever done to help me manage the condition. Read medical studies and clinical trials at the National Institutes Of Health web site. Then continue researching by spending time on sites like WebMD and others.
