Story about Galactosemia .

Transplant At 2 months old

May 28, 2017

By: Steven

Steven II was born on Sept 28, 2012. Although he was born a month early he shares his birth-date with his late maternal grandmother. When Steven was born, he was diagnosed with  Galactosemia.

On Thanksgiving night (Nov 23, 2012) Steven was taken to the hospital for a mass on his upper thigh. Originally, the mass was thought to be fatty tissue or a swollen lymphoid, so the doctors sent him home with an appointment for the following week. Once at the appointment the doctors realized that his condition was more than just galactosemia. He was transferred to Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. While at Georgetown it was discovered that Steven had acute damage to his liver requiring him to undergo a liver transplant.

On Dec 5, 2012, Steven became the youngest liver transplant patient in the United States for 2012.  Special thanks to God, mommy & daddy, my family, the doctors at Georgetown University Hospital, and the family of the 7 year old guardian angel in South Carolina whose loss of life gave new life.
