It appears to be a genetic autoimmune disease. It commonly appears when girls/women’s estrogen levels are low (prepubescent and menopausal). It’s also common that the patient has been diagnosed with another autoimmune disorder, or Lyme Disease, or other viral infection (Epstein Barr).
