How did all start?
I began my journey with a gp appointment quickly followed by a hospital test and biopsies to test the lump and identify what it was.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
I knew at my first hospital appointment that I either had giant fibroadenoma or phyllodes tumour and had to wait a week on results
For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?
I have had phyllodes tumour and fibroadenoma
What have been your biggest difficulties?
Dealing with the psychological effects of going through recurrence
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
I find that people don’t really understand the true extent of the situation unless they have faced it, recovering is hard and people judge how you look on the outside. I have kept my fear and tears close to myself to try to be strong
What do you think about the future?
I am hoping for a positive future where I can get through annual checkups and get the all clear after 5 years
So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?
I got married in 2017 which was the best day ever
If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?
My life is in recovery mode just now however I want to recover well and be strong
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
Don’t be afraid, speak up, don’t worry about taking your top off or people having a feel at lumps and bumps they are the experts and are genuinely there to help you
