Eating a healthy diet rich in green and colourful vegetables, low fat proteins, high in fibre and low in saturated fats and sugars is a good idea for anyone. I feel that if you are diagnosed with ANY illness, it is incumbent upon you to try to eat a healthy diet to improve your chances of recovery. With Anosmia, not being able to enjoy food, and having your sense of taste limited to sweet, salty, spicy, sour, means that people with this condition have to guard against indulging in sweets and salty treats just to have a sense of "taste". I have found that focussing on the texture of food helps. I have also found myself adding hot pepper sauce to just about anything...to add a sensual experience that is lost with the loss of smell. But is it difficult, and eating can become boring. One third of people with this condition will gain about 25 lbs in the years following diagnosis. Another third will lose weight. One third will remain at their post-diagnosis weight.
