How did all start?
Born with this, and siblings have it too however none of us have been diagnosed until I was 19 and with a Dentist in Croydon for a short time. We all have weak, discoloured teeth.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
Diagnosed at 19 but only by sight. I recently visited a hygienist who asked my certain questions (family history etc) and confirmed diagnosis.
For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?
I’ve only had limited and essential treatment to preserve teeth. Crowns, a bridge and many fillings. I’ve also had 2 extractions.
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
Not very much really - she me online articles have been helpful.
What have been your biggest difficulties?
Finding information in the UK.
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
It’s not really affected them. I suppose I’ve never really felt good about my smile!
What things have you stopped doing?
Nothing really!
What do you think about the future?
I hope to get some treatment via the local University which has a Dental course. I am hoping I will hav a nicer smile and will feel more confident.
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
Have a proper discussion with your Dentist, get diagnosed and agree a treatment plan.
