Story about Aplastic Anemia .

Two years diagnosis this week Aug 2017 and still in college

I was treated at the NIH with Dr. Young and Dr. Townsley. I was given ATG with Cyclosporine (twice a day high dose) and Promacta also called Eltrombopag. I was given 16 days of prednisone. When treated my cellularity was less than 5%, WBC and RBC were 2.6 ANC was about 400 and Hemoglobin was 5.6 and Platelets were 16. I responded VERY FAST to the meds listed above and have not had a BMT. I am back at college and doing well. I am happy I went to the NIH and talked with other top AA doctors in the country. My labs were all perfect but two years in I have labs just right below normal WBC and RBC 3.5, Platelets 120 Hemoglobin 11.7. I am able to run and workout - go to class full time.

I hope if others who are newly diagnosed find this they can have hope. Highly recommend calling the NIH and at least listening to what they may be able to do to help.

Take care.
