Bronchiectasis

Year Condition Began: 2006

It started with a chest infection in 2006 that just did not go away. Eventually I was referred to a respiratory specialist who said there was nothing wrong with my lungs but I needed to see a sinus surgeon.

So I saw a sinus surgeon and had my first surgery on my sinuses. Post operatively I continued to cough constantly with no real improvement in my sinuses so I was referred to a surgeon and specialising I’m complex sinus surgery. I had another operation and following this I was referred again to a respiratory physician. A further CT scan was done and a diagnosis of bronchiectasis was made. I very soon developed pseudomonas infection in my lungs which has been treated successfully with IV antibiotics. However I am now colonised with Haemophilus Influenzae. This is being managed symptomatically.

I have had a further three sinus surgeries since then, finally with success.

I have regular exacerbations which are treated depending on what grows in my sputum.
