Story about Cavernous Malformation .

35 weeks pregnant CCM bleed in brain stem

Jun 14, 2017

I was 35 weeks pregnant and admitted to the birth unit with a headache.  I was given iv fluid and had some bloods taken.  Over the next 48 hours I started to vomit constantly.  Developed double vision.  Lost all pain sensation or hot/cold sensation down left side of body.    Became weak lost strength and sensation down right side of my body.   Had difficulty swallowing. Developed a right side facial droop.  Extreme vertigo and dizziness

An MRI showed a CCM with an active bleed in my brain stem or medulla to be Exact.

The decision was made to get my bub out via c-section under spinal an anaesthetic.   Healthy boy!

I was commenced on IV dexamethasone and put into ICU. For 5 nights.

My blood pressure became elevated and was managed with inotropes and then oral labitolol.

Inspent the next 3 weeks in hospital learning to walk again to be strong enough to take my baby home and be with other two kids also.

7 months in I still have some weakness in. My arm but otherwise I am pretty lucky.   Watching and waiting.   Not operating unless I have another bleed.
