A Celiac Disease story

May 28, 2016

My journey to a Celiac diagnosis spanned over nine years, three hospital systems, and two states. My battle with with my health began when I was just in second grade. For years,  I struggled with rare and unusual conditions – I was lucky to find doctors who could even manage them. But things really took a turn for the worse in the past two years. In the course of one year, I battled migraines, hyperthyroidism, a severe medication interaction, and a diagnosis of Neurocardiogenic Syncope with only a couple of weeks in between each issue. During this time, I firmly believed that there was a “catalyst” – an unidentified underlying issue that was causing my health to deteriorate so rapidly, but my symptoms were often dismissed as anxiety. I was determined to find an answer to my mysterious illnesses, however, and after two trips to the Emergency Room and a drive to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, my suspicions were finally confirmed, and I was diagnosed with an incredibly severe case of Celiac disease.

My other diagnoses include Primary Raynaud’s Syndrome, Neurocardiogenic Syncope, Exercise/Cold induced Asthma, Resolved Hyperthyroidism, Vocal Cord Dysfunction, Corneal Thinning, and Fibromyalgia. I'm happy to talk about my experiences both with Celiac and her other chronic illnesses, and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!
