A Cholesteatoma interview .

Sophie's interview

How did all start?

Wax buildup and lots of ear infections. Finally referred to ent after being ignored for years that something was wrong with my ear.

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

After being referred to ent I got an appointment with the consultant within a few months and he diagnosed cholesteatoma at that appointment. Waiting on CT scan and on the waiting list for surgery.

What have been your biggest difficulties?

Loss of hearing and ear discharge

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

I don't like giving people hugs now because of the ear discharge but apart from that nothing else has changed.

What things have you stopped doing?

Giving hugs and swimming

What do you think about the future?

I'm nervous as I know this is just the start to my journey but I'm glad they have found it finally and looking forward to hopefully having a dry ear.

So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?

2014 and 2020. My children were born

What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?

Not worry about the discharge and be able to enjoy swimming.
