Late last year a nonprofit organisation called The ME CFS Foundation South Africa (Reg nr 2015/394378/08) was founded. C0-Founder Retha Viviers also has the illness (M.E/CFS), but realised somebody in South Africa had to stand up for those affected by this illness despite her own struggle.
The Foundation is the first of its kind in South Africa and we are literally putting SA on the map ME/CFS wise. There is no cure yet for this illness and from all around the world, patients/activists and advocates have come together to say ENOUGH!
ME/CFS organisations are in need of awareness as well as funds for global research and our stories really need to be heard! As said, the illness is still greatly misunderstood and stigmatized, consequently patients live in agony, isolation and often financial stress.
