I started getting pain in my right hand and arm in December 2009 after having the flu. I was initially told it was tendinitis and put on tablets for this. I worked in an office and found over the next few months the pain was getting worse and then moved to my left hand and arm. It was realised it was not tendinitis and so I got referred to the pain clinic and there I had blood tests, Mri scans, x rays and ultra sounds but nothing could be found. I was then referred to a rheumatologist as it was believed to be arthritis. I had steroid injections and was monitored but because this didn't help I was then given my diagnosis of crps. I have been on every tablet available but nothing eases the pain. I have seen specialists in Bath and had an inpatient stay but nothing helps with the pain. I had to leave my job of 11 years in 2011 and have been unable to work since. I have good days and bad days. Good days are not pain free but I have a limited use of my hands and I can manage certain tasks. Bad days are unbearable and I can't manage anything. Bad days can be brought on by absolutely nothing or can be brought on by doing something like brushing my hair or carrying something. I have been told this may just disappear one day or a new drug may be developed that will take the pain away. I'm waiting for either so I can go back to work and lead a normal life again. I am on anti depressants and anxiety tablets as I struggle to leave the house as I don't like being too near other people. I try to go out as often as I can as i don't want to lose my life completely but it's hard.
