MicheleMiranda22's interview
How did all start?
I have been a heavy girl most of my adulthood. I was diagnosed with diabetes and was told to lose weight at 44. I worked hard and lost 30 lbs. But then I started feeling nauseous alot. Then major pain in my pancreas area. Lost all my appetite. When I do eat, it's a toddler size meal and I get 3-4 bites down. But I feel full like I just finished a Thanksgiving meal. I do also get migraines since I was young. And was sick "flu" alot growing up. One doctor called it flu syndrome. I guess he didn't know what else to call it. But I would vomit for days straight, feel better for a bit then sick again. I now have lost 73 lbs in the last 3 1/2 years.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
Not diagnose
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
I live on Zofran
What have been your biggest difficulties?
Eating. No appetite. Gut pain.
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
I dont go out with friends much in fear of getting sick. My family has been my support team.
What things have you stopped doing?
Eating my favorite foods. Just the thought of food makes me nauseous.
What do you think about the future?
Hopeful. I have been feeling a bit better over the last year. I just think I've learned what I can eat and what I can't.
What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?
Go to a nice dinner.
If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?
Everything's done with a smile.
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
Some people find relief with hot baths or showers.
