Some other conditions cause this, and some women get it in the later stages of pregnancy. Some folks believe it comes from stress or a virus. In my case, it sure seems genetic-- I am the sixth female on my mom's side to get this. My own daughter had it when she was 9-- she is now 30 and healed all the way. I was not so lucky and have some major permanent damage.
