Research has not proved yet how someone acquires Sarcoidosis. This is not a contagious disease not is it an air bone disease.
It is difficult to know you have this disease because it is still not very well known. Withoout a diagnosis it is impossible to know that you have it. Also it takes a professional who is aware of various symptoms related to Sarcoidosis or similar e.g. tuberculosis. Myself being an African, from Uganda where we had an HIV epidemic, and some of these symptoms e.g. weight loss, are related to that, because of my origin, the Professor assumed it was TB related to HIV. He tested me for TB and was shocked to find out that it had been ruled out. Later he did a biopsy on my LUNG and that's when I got my diagnosis. So somehow I felt stereotyped but this helped to get a quick diagnosis with a week and started my treatment.
