Athlete's Journey with Fibrous Dysplasia

Dec 22, 2015

I was diagnosed when I was in the 6th grade.  It was my birthday when they did the x-ray.  They sent me to the Oncologist to confirm it was FD and not cancer.  I have FD in my Left Tibia.  As of now, I have had 11 surgeries outpatient and inpatient.  I did 59 Hyperbaric Treatments along with woundcare. I have had Osteomyletis 3 times since I was born.  I missed almost half of the 9th grade and 10th grade.  I am a Sophomore in High School.  I have made it the whole school year without missing a full of day of school.  Between my FD and my asthma, this has never happened.  For 59 Hyperbaric treatments I missed my last class of the day.  I was a gymnast, competitive cheerleader, equestrian, runner, soccer player, lacrosse player...basically anything athletic I did it.   I loved to tumble and now I can not.  I started cheering for school but I only started jumping recently.
