Tracey's interview

How did all start?

Tingling in my mouth, on my face... toes, fingers. I struggled to go up stairs at my college. Thought I was super tired.

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

It took two weeks. Doc first thought I was having an anxiety attack and had me breathing into a paper bag! When I couldn’t walk he thought of GBS.

For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?

Neurologist and rheumatology.

What has been the most useful thing for you so far?

Stay active, stay active

What have been your biggest difficulties?

Exhaustion, other autoimmune issues

What things have you stopped doing?

I don’t run.

What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?

Run a marathon. My joints in my ankles are too shot to run.

If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?

Every step a joyful slog.

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

Find humor. It can help ease the pain and fear.
