While receiving a diagnosis of Hemicrania Continua can feel overwhelming, working closely with a headache specialist to confirm this diagnostic indomethacin response is the most effective path toward symptom stabilization and improved quality of life.

How can I build an effective care team for Hemicrania Continua?

Because Hemicrania Continua is often misdiagnosed as a standard migraine or tension headache, finding a neurologist who specializes in headache medicine is critical. A multidisciplinary approach is best; consider including a pain management specialist and a clinical psychologist. Your primary physician should facilitate referrals, but your headache specialist will lead the management of Hemicrania Continua, specifically overseeing the titration of indomethacin, which is the gold-standard treatment for this condition.

How do I manage daily life and symptoms?

Living with the persistent pain of Hemicrania Continua requires careful energy conservation and symptom tracking. Many patients find that keeping a detailed headache diary is essential for identifying triggers and monitoring the efficacy of treatments. Consider these strategies for daily management:

  • Maintain a strict medication schedule, as Hemicrania Continua requires consistent dosing to prevent breakthrough pain.

  • Use a headache diary to log pain intensity, duration, and potential environmental or dietary triggers.

  • Prioritize sleep hygiene, as irregular sleep patterns are known to exacerbate the symptoms of Hemicrania Continua.

  • Explore cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help manage the psychological burden of living with a chronic pain condition.

Anyone who has been diagnosed with HC if you can stomach indomethacin you'll feel better than you have before.

Anyone who can't stomach indo, nerve block injections help for a few day. There's a treatment called gamma core that Stimulates the Vagus nerve that might work for you. I currently use a TENs machine for my neck and forehead, this helps a little while its on but pain quickly returns once off. (Don't let my experience stop you from trying)
