Late Diagnosis

Jan 12, 2020

By: Lisa

Year Condition Began: 1972

I was never good at sports as a kid. A vibration when hitting a bat to a ball, would send pain up thru my wrists, forearms and elbows. I could not pull myself up to a bar in phys-ed, push ups hurt my wrists so bad, but I was forced to participate.

I knew my wrists looked different than everyone else, but I never had a doctor show any interest in how they looked.

As I got older and signs of RA began to show, it was finally noticed in exrays and MRI's. I was 47 before I finally knew what was causing my pain and deformity. At this point, there isn't much surgeons can do to help me. The only things I have found to help, are custom made splits with velcro straps. I use them to sleep at night or if my wrists are hurting a lot.
