Sickle Cell disease made me become a writer

By: Chantal

MY NAME IS CHANTAL, I'M 48 YEARS OLD. I WAS BORN WITH SICKLECELL DISEASE AND GOT MY FIRST PAIN ATTACK WHEN I WAS SIX YEARS OLD. I NEVER WANTED TO TALK ABOUT IT UNTIL I MET A COUSIN WITH SCD WHO HAD A HARD TIME DEALING WITH IT. I FOUND OUT THAT TALKING TO HER ABOUT IT EMPOWERED HER TO OVERCOME THE DIFFICULTIES THAT GO WITH SCD. IN 2014 I DECIDED TO HELP YOUNGER PEOPLE, CHILDREN BY WRITING A STORY ABOUT A LITTLE GIRL SUFFERING FROM SCD. THE BOOK IS IN DUTCH AND IN PAPIAMENTO (SPOKEN IN THE DUTCH ANTILLES AND ARUBA) AND IS CURRENTLY BEING TRANSLATED TO ENGLISH SINCE SCD IS FOUND ALL OVER THE WORLD. I HIRED A FUNDRAISER TO RAISE THE FUNDS FOR THIS PROJECT OF WHICH I HOPE IT CAN BE REALIZED LATER THIS YEAR.
