Story about Stiff Person Syndrome .

How I was diagnosed with SPS

Apr 5, 2017

I started having symptoms around age 25 which included severely painful cramps with repeated movements. My first pregnancy at age 30 progressed the symptoms rapidly and my second pregnancy quadrupled the cramping/contracting muscles. I became a type 2 diabetic at age 30 even though I was thin and healthy. I had problems swallowing foods for a couple years before that and finally was diagnosed with gastroparesis after 3 years of testing by my gastroenterologist. He couldn't understand why I had these symptoms and referred me to a neurologist. The neurologist testified me for everything she could think of but all tests were negative. When she almost gave up, I explained to her when my symptoms started and when they progressed and she finally thought I could possibly have SPS. She gave me klonopin and the next morning, the cramps stopped. That's when I was finally diagnosed ( approximately 7 years after I started having complaints).
