Year Condition Began: -1997

For a few years I had pain where I couldn't lie flat in bed. I slept in a reclining position. In 1997, the pain escalated where I had pain in my neck and one day while working in school, I had the office call my husband to pick me up because I could barely walk. The pain in my body was so excruciating I was praying to God to please make it stop. My husband and I went to the hospital after my doctor ordered an MRI. The doctor ordered pain medication so I could tolerate lying flat in the MRI tube. After what seemed like an eternity, I was immediately admitted into the hospital . I had no clue for what until my doctor facing the window a he spoke told me a lesion was spotted on my neck region of my spinal cord. He continued to brace me for the worse talking about possibility of chemo. This was Mother's Day weekend. I am thinking about my 7 year old daughter and 2 year old son...and the worse. I did have a wonderful neurosurgeon that told me the positive signs but would know more after surgery. Thank goodness after a 6 1/2 hour surgery, the tumor was benign and the terrible body pain was gone! Years later, I discovered I have a condition called syringomyelia and I am a walking miracle (neurosurgeons are surprised I am not paralyzed....still tear up thinking about that remark! ) I have knowledge about condition and yet it is still a mystery to me...
