No more running

Aug 18, 2016

By: Suze

My symptoms began following a holiday in Europe in 2008.  A few days after arriving home, I tried to go for a run and my left leg felt "strange".  My legs became progressively weaker over a three month period.  My first neurologist could find nothing wrong after tests failed to show anything.  When I could no longer feel the pedals in my car I was admitted to hospital.  Many tests (spinal tap, MRI, blood tests) showed nothing but I was treated with IVIG, later with intravenous steroids.  I left the hospital in a wheelchair and still use a wheelchair and a wheelie-walker to get around.  One doctor said "It is unlikely you will walk unassisted again."
