Story about Transverse myelitis .

30+ years living with TM

Jul 24, 2017

I first got TM in 1984 and spent my 26 birthday in hospital in shooters Hill  hospital  paralysed from the chest down. Eventually was discharged from hospital after about four weeks  with no help from any  professionals. I stayed at home being cared for in the evenings and at weekends by my husband  and eventually learn to walk again and return to work.  I would say that I learnt to live with TM and did very well for about 20 years. Then I started having 'episodes' (mainly linked to period stress in my life) every 2 to 5 years, then in January 2017 Whilst on a visit to New Zealand I suffered from five bites from 'bugs' and have basically been unwell since then. I've been told that my spine is inflamed and received steroid treatment for this but now continuously suffer from muscle and nerve pain which nobody seems to be able to help me with .
