Trich sucks.

Hi all,

 

My names Vikki, I'm 28 and I've suffered from trichotillomania for 14 years.  This started after the sudden death of my dad, followed soon after by the death of my gran.  I pull all hair on my body, no exceptions.  In recent years, my condition has improved slightly as my mental health and situation has, but I still pull on a daily basis.  I suffer from other health issues and find that when they worsen, so does my pulling.  The more I stress, the more I pull.

 

I currently wear a weave style system which stops me from getting to a large portion of the hair on my head.  The system has absolutely saved me.  It's boosted my confidence and made me much happier and more comfortable in myself.  My eyelashes will not fully come back any more due to over pulling, and my hair will always be patchy. 

 

I have an amazingly supportive group of family and friends who have stood by me with my condition.  My mum has been a saint, as much as I know this has also been extremely hard for her.  I've only recently started to talk openly about my condition and everyone has reacted incredibly.

 

If anyone would like someone to speak to or to ask any questions, please don't hesitate to message me.  I would love to be able to talk to someone who is in my position 14 years ago and help in any way possible.  I didn't have support at that time as I didn't understand my condition.  Now that it's more understood and publicised, I'm happy to help and answer any questions you might have.
