A Visual Snow interview .

Leslie's interview

How did all start?

My 27-year-old son had always been healthy, ate well, was athletic and academically strong. He graduated from a challenging university program and was gainfully employed in a job he loved and described as 'low pressure.' After renovating the ceiling on his condo he suddenly came down with chest pains, numbness, fatigue and eye sight issues. He tested negative for heart, lung conditions, eye problems, lyme disease and MS. The chest pains cleared but he was left with static eye sight issues, impaired night vision, tinnitus and other symptoms.

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

He was diagnosed with VS about five months after the symptoms started.

What has been the most useful thing for you so far?

He uses a tinted lens for reading and some diet decisions have helped. We have also found the Visual Snow Initiative (visualsnowinitiative.org) very helpful.

What have been your biggest difficulties?

I can's speak in great detail but know that reading, driving at night and being around large white walls are all challenging.

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

Believe your family member if they experience Visual Snow symptoms, be as supportive as you can and encourage them to try alternative therapies. Also encourage your family member to connect with online communities that offer helpful connections and advise from medical professionals, as well as other people with this condition (such as the Visual Snow Initiative).
