I was riding my Mtn bicycle on a steep incline down hill about 25 mph. A one ton truck driving in the opposite direction turn left in front of me. I barely slowed to about 15 mph. I struck his passenger door with the outside left aspect of my rib cage. I protected my face and skull by folding my left arm while raising it up completely to cover my face (I’m ugly enough)!
I had no broken ribs or head injuries.
A few months latter in the show one morning before a 75 mile trading ride up the coast, my Aorta Ruptured just distal of the valve. Having been and EMT/FireFighter, I was scared because I could not think clearly. I was a nurse at the time and could not figure out what happened. Finally I could not locate ANY right side Pulses. I told my roommate to call 911 because I was Dying. When the Medics arrived, I told them to hurry up or I was going to haunt them for the rest of their careers!
In The ER, the Attending Physician was ignoring my case because my lab values had shown him I was badly hung over from drinking a lot the night before.
The Chief Of Cardiology threatened him with losing his Privileges to Practice at that ER if he did not order a CT Scan with contrast.
While discussing my case with the Cardiothorasic Surgeon, I asked him if I was going to wake up. He said he did not know, we would have to see. I told him that was ok, because Heaven was much nicer digs than Fullerton, Calif. I asked him to give my daughter a hug and tell her I loved her very much and that I was so sorry!
Well I am still here after almost 15 years and now get to spend all kinds of time with my 14 month old Granddaughter!!!
