Summer stones

Feb 14, 2018

By: Hayley

Year Condition Began: 2007

I had just turned 16 when I was diagnosed. When I went to the ER they sent me to Dornbecker children's hospital. They diagnosed my problem as a kidney and sent me home to pass it. The following night I went to church with my dad, needless to say he noticed I was turning yellow and we left my mom met us at the house and we were back in the ER. I was rushed back with out checking in my vitals were everywhere I had become septic, my liver was shutting down. The ER doctors from the night hadn't told the on call urologist that there were more than one stone. The stones were removed the following morning and sent to be analyzed. The urology staff had no idea what they were looking at they had to call in a specialist. He recognized my condition as cystinuria. The next 4 years I spent a lot of times in the ER. I've had 4 major surgeries since them and so many urethral procedures I've lost count. But they say I still have full kidney function so I guess I can't complain too much.
