A Duane Syndrome interview .

R's interview

How did all start?

I think it started the moment kids at school at 5th grade started to notice how one of my eyes was smaller than the other, and I went home and asked my parents about why I wasn't like other people and why I had two differently sized eyes.

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

Was diagnosed at birth, so I don't really remember much of it.

What have been your biggest difficulties?

Name calling during primary school, it really affects my life now.

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

When I was younger, I used to be very open and energetic and social with others and then after the name calling started, I guess I just became quieter and tried to avoid any social events.

What things have you stopped doing?

Socializing with others.

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

You shouldn't listen to others because their opinions don't matter. If you believe that you are perfectly normal, then no one can tell you otherwise. And you are perfectly normal. You were created this way, don't let it bring you down.
