The goal of The Katherine and Ryan Memorial Organization - KARPMO - is to promote a greater awareness in both the medical community and the general public of Loeys-Dietz Syndrome and Aortic Dissection, to bring to light the severity of this potentially deadly and rare genetic disease. Loeys-Dietz Syndrome is a genetically inherited mutation which may be discovered very early in life or not diagnosed until adolescence or adulthood. Loeys-Dietz Syndrome is often not recognized by medical professionals due to lack of understanding the multiple and complex symptoms that vary from patient to patient. Especially in people that are young.
Toward attaining this goal KARPMO raises public awareness and promotes education by holding fund raising/educational events at least twice a year.
Funds raised by KARPMO are donated directly to research into Loeys-Dietz Syndrome and associated issues, and to fund the Katherine and Ryan Palludan Memorial Scholarship established at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
