Story about Lyme Disease .

My Lyme journey

Jun 22, 2026

I became quite ill at the beginning of 1986 after receiving what I thought was a mosquito bite that I had a severe reaction to. It took almost 8 months and a GP who just wouldn't give up on me until II got a conclusive diagnosis (yes, on the NHS). Once diagnosed, I received oral antibiotics for a month and when this didn't work I received 16 days IV antibiotics. I had very little trouble after this until 1996. I had what I believe was a relapse or further infection (I was living in the middle of a 100 acre wood at the time). The doctors wouldn't have it that the new flare up was Lyme related and I was diagnosed with ME/CFS. I fought this for another 5 years and slowly but surely I got back to the point that I could return to work. Since then I have struggled with joint pain on and off and also seemed to get every bug going. This past year I was diagnosed with chronic Osteoarthritis. Any relation to Lyme? I don't know but I am now in a wheelchair at the age of 41.
