I won't give up

My name is Ivan. I'm a clinical psychologist. I'm 40 years old and I have Kallman's syndrome. Unfortunately, it was diagnosed only a couple of years ago (in 2009). 

My first 36 years of life without the diagnosis were not so bad, however, I developed many health problems related to the syndrome. Nobody knew the exact cause of these health conditions, so the treatment was symptomatic. I have obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus. This is because of low testosterone levels and impaired glucose metabolism. Due to low testosterone levels, I also developed osteopenia (decreased mineral density of bones). I had gynecomastia (a non-cancerous increase in the size of breast tissue in males) and I underwent two surgeries (mastectomy). But these surgeries would have been unnecessary, if someone had recognized the cause of this condition and had prescribed testosterone.

When I had a relapse of the gynecomastia, an oncologist (a very clever one) said that I might have had the Kallman syndrome. So, I've got the diagnosis and started treatment.

Despite my low testosterone levels, I have tried and I'm still trying to lead a normal and happy life. I have a very understanding and loving wife (we've got married when the KS has been diagnosed yet and I have received no treatment). I have true friends. I have work that brings meaning to my life.

I'm sure that true happiness depends on one's state of mind rather on environment and external circumstances. So, I'm determined not to give up!
