Jade's interview

How did all start?

Chronic fatigue, sleep attacks, difficulty sleeping at night and staying awake during the day, brain fog, irritability

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

Yes, it took me 4 years from the time I realized something was wrong to the time I finally got my diagnosis.

What has been the most useful thing for you so far?

Nothing

What have been your biggest difficulties?

Life

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

Some people are understanding and stay in my life, others who can’t understand don’t get to stay in my life because I don’t have the energy to deal with them.

What things have you stopped doing?

Almost everything

What do you think about the future?

I try not to think about the future. It’s not too hopeful.

So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?

The best years are mixed in with my worst years honestly. I went backpacking and was a camp counselor but also had to drop out of college.

What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?

Live my life.

If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?

Depressing but thank God there’s wine.

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

Find a good support system and get counseling if needed. Do your best and don’t worry about the rest.
