Alecia's Story

Apr 6, 2016

By: Michelle

My name is Michelle and Alecia is my daughter.  Alecia got sick in April of 2009 and was diagnosed with gastroparesis a few months later.  It wasn't until March 1, 2011that she was diagnosed with SMAS.  She had her Lap Duodenojejunostomy done on Jan 3, 2012. She never had a moment of relief because her gp & reflux were so bad.  She tried an nj and a j tube and a g tube.  She had her gallbladder removed in 2013.   Alecia was 124-126 pounds when she got sick at age 16 and was 65 pounds at age 21 when she died on May 3,2014.  Alecia is our youngest child and our only girl.  She has a brother that is 17 months older and her best friend.  Alecia was going to college to become a medical social worker with children in hospice.  She was the kindest and gentlest soul I knew. She is my hero and I love and miss her dearly as do her dad and brother. She was sick for 5 years and 2 weeks and she suffered greatly and hardly ever complained.
